– Formal pastoral care training
in partnership with Pastoral Care UK (PCUK), the pastoral care arm of the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).
Developing Quality Relationships – A 2 hour trainer led workshop suitable for ALL church members. It considers the development of quality relationships in our churches and communities in response to the command to love one another in John 13:34-35, grow disciples and participate in God’s mission of reconciliation. It can be delivered to small or large groups in an evening, daytime or extended Sunday service. It explores what obstructs, diminishes and enables the development of relationships, how we were originally created for relationship and how Jesus related to people. Trainers use scripture, personal experiences, group discussion, demonstration and power point and there is a workshop booklet for each participant.
Resourcing Pastoral Carers Course – A 10 session, trainer led course suitable for the SOME who are called into pastoral care, as well as the FEW who are called through leadership, training or specialist roles to resource the ALL and the SOME. The course aims to help develop a fuller understanding of, and skills in, pastoral care. It covers: a Christian perspective of pastoral care, human need, the caring relationship, listening skills, safe practice, other resources and reflective practice. A certificate of attendance is given upon completion of the 20 hours training and the additional 20 hours reflective practice elements.
Courses are offered to churches on a suggested donation basis to cover contact time and travel time and expenses, with the venue, refreshment and stationery costs typically being met by the host church.
– Pastoral supervision
Pastoral Supervision offers a safe, confidential, reflective space to grow in self-awareness by exploring alternative perspectives on issues encountered in pastoral practice. Sharing the load leads to emotional restoration and helps avoid burn out.
Through connections with the Association for Pastoral Supervision and Education (APSE) WPC can offer face to face or internet based pastoral supervision to church leaders or pastoral carers at regular intervals. Churches acquire team membership by contributing £20 per member per month. Each membership acquires the opportunity for different members of the team to attend up to 9 hour long sessions in total in a year.
– Parenting courses
Parenting is a challenging area of life in which we, as humans, get very little training, other than generally our own experience of being parented and on the job. With one eye on the church of tomorrow WPC is pleased to offer the much-needed resource of parenting courses in conjunction with Care for the Family enabling churches to build bridges into their local community.
Positive Parenting courses typically comprise six 2-hour facilitator led sessions, providing parents with the opportunity to share their own experiences, learn from others and explore some essential parenting principles. They include group discussions and practical tasks designed to help build on strengths and allow time and space to reflect on any changes they wish to make. Courses have the following foci.
– Early years * Dads
– Primary years * Special Needs
– Teenage years * Quidz in – helping kids manage money
– Handling Anger in the Family * How to Drug Proof your Kids
As with pastoral care courses parenting courses are offered to churches on a suggested donation basis to cover contact time, travel time and expenses, with the venue, refreshment and stationery costs being met by the host church.
– Conflict resolution
Peace-making and reconciliation are key ideas in the teaching of Jesus, but in churches and Christian communities we do not “do conflict” very well.
In partnership with Bridgebuilder Ministries WPC is pleased to offer ‘Growing Bridgebuilders’. As with pastoral care and parenting courses, conflict resolution courses are offered to churches on a suggested donation basis to cover contact time, travel time and expenses, with the venue, refreshment and stationery costs being met by the host church.
